- 1). Take a little time out at the first signs of burnout. Check your vacation and personal time. Take a long weekend or a refreshing day off in the middle of the week. If you are really fed up, consider asking your boss for a leave of absence. On your time off, do anything but think and worry about your job.
- 2). Seek a new position within your current place of employment. Try for a challenging higher position if you are not being utilized to your potential, a lateral position if you are simply bored, and even consider a lower position if you have become overwhelmed.
- 3). Forge better relationships with difficult people at work. Sometimes burnout can be caused by the stress of having problematic interactions with co-workers. Read a self-help book on how to deal with difficult relationships. If your boss is the person you are having trouble with, get to the root of the problem and talk with her about it. Often, clear communication can solve these sorts of concerns.
- 4). Organize and prioritize at work so you can get things done efficiently. A key to relieving burnout at work is to capably manage your workload. Start off strong at the beginning of your day. Create a plan for the day before you jump into tasks and try to get 75 percent of your work done during the first half of the day while you are the freshest and less likely to be overwhelmed.
- 5). Work out after your work day is finished. Yoga is a great activity to participate in, because it gives both a mental workout and a physical one. Walking is another way of getting physical exercise while clearing the mind. Physical exercise will help alleviate depression brought on by the stresses of job burnout, and will help you sleep better at night so you don't lie awake thinking about the next day.
- 6). Get your work hours changed to help you break your old routine. Also, challenge yourself at work to learn something new or get something done in a certain amount of time, and reward yourself with small tokens for each accomplishment. Breaking up the routine you have fallen into will help you view your job in a new and exciting way.
- 7). Change your work environment. If you are in a cubicle, change some pictures around, alter the screensaver and backgrounds on your computer, bring in fresh flowers, small candies, seasonal reminders and anything else to enliven your work area and prevent you from returning to the dame old space day after day.
