- Make throw pillows out of fluffy towels. Fold the towel in half with the back side of the towel facing you. Sew down the two long edges of the towel with a needle and thread or sewing machine, using a straight stitch. Turn the towel right side out and stuff the towel cover with fiberfill. Then, tuck in the edges of the open portion of the cushion about ½ inch. Hold the two edges together and sew them closed with a straight stitch.
- If you have some kitchen chairs with covers that have seen better days, transform them inexpensively with towels. Lay the towel down on the seat of the chair and center the towel. Starting at the front of the chair, tuck the towel under the seat, stapling the towel to the under side of the seat with a staple gun. Do one side next, pulling the material around the leg of the chair and tucking under any excess material before you staple the towel to the underside of the chair. When you attach the towel to the other side of the chair, make sure that you pull the towel tightly across the chair to prevent any bulging of the material. Finally, pull the material at the back of the chair tightly, tuck the material under the chair and staple the towel to the under side of the chair.
- If you want to make puppets with your children, use towels. They will be washable and inexpensive to make. Fold the towel in half and draw an outline of a hand puppet on the towel with a marker. Cut the outline out, making sure to cut both halves of the material. Sew along the edges of the outline with a needle and thread, using a straight stitch. Be sure that you leave the bottom of the hand puppet open, however. Then turn the puppet form right side out and decorate it by gluing on felt eyes, mouth and a nose. Attach yarn for the hair, as desired.
- Make cheap, easy-to-clean area rugs from terry cloth towels. Spread out on the floor the towels that you want to use, side by side, until they are in the shape and pattern that you desire. Use all the same color of towels or mix and match the colors of the towels for a more dramatic effect. Using a yarn needle and yarn, sew the edges of the towels together with a whip stitch.
