Everyone knows flowers bring a smile to the recipients face, they've somehow avoided falling into the cliché pile and remain classy no matter on what occasion you buy them for (I buy them on mothers day) and they look quite stunning, but what about the scientifically observed emotional impact of them? Read on to find out.
In 2005 (recent in the world of long term scientific studies) a team of researchers took it upon themselves to explore the link between flowers and overall life satisfaction of the people who received them over a 10 month period, the results were overwhelmingly positive.
They found that flowers act as a natural and healthy mood moderator.
It turns out flowers have an instant effect on happiness levels, all those involved in the study described themselves as uplifted and displayed "true and excited" smiles when receiving them, this occurred across all age groups involved.
As for long term effects, recipients reported feeling less depressed, agitated or worn down after receiving them, giving them a whole new boost of pleasure from life and generally elevating their moods above what they normally reside at.
They also lead to connections between the giver and receiver, with more phone calls and contact noted between them than with any other gift.
So really flowers are just about the perfect present for anybody, available widely, healthy to your mental state and free of pretension they're the perfect sincere gift for your loved ones on any occasion, or even a partner when you're feeling romantic
