Healthy self esteem is very important for all human beings because it reflects good relationships with our "inner persons".
When we are conflicting with our 'self' then it becomes very easy to seek identity from other persons close to us and who may not care.
For a woman's little girl, helping them build a strong character especially based on physical appearance is very important.
Lots of mothers around the world hope everyday that their little angles do not turn out to be like themselves when they grow up, because deep inside they have issues with their body shapes especially.
A good percentage of these women will do their best to show unconditional love and care to their daughters to try and satisfy their own 'inner child' that still craves this treatment it never received.
Naturally, mothers will always be the very first tool for shaping the personal growth of their children and especially girls who imitate their every action or words.
One may think that kids do not notice their mother's discontent with how she looks but sure they do.
Little girls see how you grieve for your big body size and will from time to time ask you how they look in a new dress.
And since mothers who hate their own appearances may be critical of those of their daughters, it is vital for them to always be careful with what their tongues confess in front of children.
Your little girl should not be the one to pay the price for your insecurity.Too much emphasis on beauty as well as hypercriticism may cause her to be obscessed with her looks while believing she can never be pretty enough.
Mums need to realize that poor self-esteem was never their destiny but it can be inherited over generations.
So if you they want to help their daughters, they must then trace this from their own mothers and grannies if still alive.
And if they find out that their own mums could have passed this to them and they want to protect their own little angles from this, it is crucial to start becoming conscious of their thoughts and actions.
Self-esteem is not meant for some people, but it is developed from within, self-motivated and linked to our past and present circumstances.
In order for us to help our children, it is imperative that we work through our issues first because we became their role models when we brought them to this world.
This may not be easy given the prejudiced expectations held by our immediate society concerning how a beautiful woman should look like.
For example a super- flat- belled woman is adored more that one with a big waste line or simply the greater emphasis given to the slender as opposed to the fat women.
Our little girls receive these messages everyday and may end up believing that this is what define all pretty women.
Perhaps you could start by getting her own opinion by asking her a question such as this " do you know of fat women, with big-busts and bottoms who lead happy lives?, How do you think a happy person looks like? For instance".
The idea should be challenging the live cultural norms about women appearance that are damaging to your child's self esteem.
This way you are able to make them resist this undeserved critisism and also assisting them in appreciating their own looks.
The greatest gift a mother can give to her daughter is none other than self-confidence and ability to make mature and own choices.
