- 1). Put your cashmere sweater in a pillowcase and add a few tennis or golf balls to help with agitation. Tie a knot in the top of the pillow case.
- 2). Wash the sweater in hot water using a normal amount of wool wash. Add a heavy clothing item, like a pair of jeans, to increase agitation.
- 3). Open the pillowcase and check your sweater. If the weave of the sweater is still visible or it has not shrunk, put it back in the pillow case with the balls and wash it again. It may take three to four cycles to properly felt cashmere.
- 4). Remove the sweater from the pillowcase and dry it in the dryer on "high" when you are satisfied with the felting.
- 1). Cut a triangle from the front of your sweater, measuring 12 inches per side for a newborn, 16 inches for an older baby or 20 inches for a toddler. The waist band of the sweater should make up one side of your triangle, with the other two sides extending upward toward the neckline.
- 2). Cut the wrist bands off your sweater to use for leg bands and set them aside.
- 3). Turn your triangle so that the waist band is at the top, and the inside of the sweater is facing you. Fold the bottom point of the triangle up to meet the waist band, and fold the side points in to touch the center point. Pin the pieces together where they meet and continue to pin halfway down to the bottom of each opening.
- 4). On a sewing machine, stitch together each set of triangle points from the top, stopping halfway to leave leg holes. Remove the pins.
- 5). Pin the wrist bands around the leg holes and sew them on. Remove the pins and turn your diaper cover right side out.
- 1). Snip small holes in the center of the waistband of your diaper cover approximately 1 inch apart.
- 2). Crochet a single chain or knit an I-cord twice the length of your diaper cover's waistband to use as a drawstring.
- 3). Thread the drawstring through the holes in the waistband, in and out, and tie the drawstring at the front.
