- 1). Navigate to the opening game screen. Select "CPU" or "Player" for the visiting and home teams to indicate who is playing. Adjust any other options at this time such as the weather during the game, the length of the game or the music to which the game will be played. Select your team.
- 2). Let the kickoff screen load. One player will receive the kickoff from the other team. If you are receiving the ball, select a play to run it up the field. The icon for every play in the game, whether offensive or defensive, is marked with a series of circles and lines to indicate the movements of the team members. Receive the kickoff, and, with the game pad, run the player with possession as far as possible toward the end zone. After the tackle, select one of the many offensive plays with the A button; side scroll with the game pad to navigate through all of the possibilities. The ball will snap to your quarterback, and the players will begin to run their lines. Select the player you want to pass the ball to with the control pad and throw the ball. Run the receiving player as far as possible. Continue this process until you score a touchdown or until the other team gains possession.
- 3). Defend your field goal by selecting defensive plays to run against the offense. There are many defensive plays, with names such as Red Dog Storm and Cover 2. Select a play with the A button. The defensive players will line up against the team with possession. After the snap, you can navigate the defensive players toward the quarterback, attempt to intercept the throw, cover players or tackle receivers. Try to prevent forward movement by the offense until there is a turnover on possession.
- 4). Kick the ball when necessary. If your team has not advanced very far down the field and is running a fourth down, punt. You can also run a fake punt at any time. If you are sufficiently close to the end zone, you can attempt a field goal for three points. Play until the time runs out; the player with the highest score wins the game.
