Guests:
Oprah welcomed back past guests to update their stories.
Show Summary:
After many years or just a few months, viewers are often curious as to what became of some of Oprah's most memorable past guests. In this episode, Oprah re-connected with a few of those people and gave them the opportunity to share how their life has changed since they originally visited the show.
Oprah spoke with Katherine who revealed her 175 pound weight loss in 2002 to find that she put most of the weight back on and has re-lost 100 pounds. Jake, who was born Julia, expressed how his transition process strained his relationship with his brother, and Abraham McDonald from Oprah's Karaoke Challenge is recording.
Special Highlights:
This episode featured the following highlights:
- Katherine gained back 150 of her 175 pounds, but gained a deeper perspective of her own true value that cannot be shifted based on how many pounds she adds or loses.
- While the family focused on Jake's transition, brother Jason felt invisible in his own home and suffered from anorexia to find control in his life. While the relationship is still strained, the family is working towards healing.
- Abraham McDonald's first single "Miracle" was available for download from Oprah.com.
- Cheryl and her daughter Veronica spoke to Oprah about the addiction recovery process.
What to Take Away from the Show:
Each of the guests in this episode shared their own story of reaching for the best version of themselves.
Katherine was able to find self love and value in her life not associated with her size; Jake became his authentic self when he became a man and discovered he was also attracted to men; Abraham McDonald pursued his dream and gift of singing and feels blessed to be recording an album with LA Reid; while Cheryl is working on becoming a better mother and stronger person, free from addiction. Each person is an example of how everyone has their own path of discovery and living their best life.
