With recycled crafts, you save the environment as well as money. What may seem like trash can be turned into treasures. Working with recycled materials also teaches children not to be wasteful and to appreciate our planet. - Don't throw away those old soup or vegetable cans. Save them and create new projects, such as a pencil holder. Wash an old aluminum can, paint it with acrylic paints and let it dry. Get more creative by decorating the can with all sorts of recycled items. Glue old scraps of fabric, buttons, old bottle caps or beads to the can. If you don't have acrylic paints on-hand, just wrap the can in wrapping paper or construction paper and proceed with decorating.
- If you have any old CDs that are scratched and don't work anymore, don't toss them in the trash. Your child can create unique ornaments with very few materials. You will need two CDs for each ornament. Place a pretty ribbon or cord between the two CDs. Glue them together. Let dry. Now the children can decorate the CDs with acrylic gemstones, beads or buttons. Photographs, small pieces of wrapping paper or scraps of fabric are great for decorating too. Another option is to paint the CDs with acrylic paints.
- Not only are you recycling with this project from freekidscrafts.com, but you're also creating an inexpensive and adorable table decoration for Easter. Cover a bath tissue tube with pink tissue or construction paper. Draw on eyes, or glue on googly eyes. Cut out rabbit ears from pink construction paper and tape them to the inside of the tube above the eyes. Next, cut four paws from pink paper. Glue one pair of paws to the sides of the tube. Tape the legs of the second pair to the inside of the bottom of the tube. Bend the paws at the bottom of the tube to the outside so the rabbit will stand. Attach a white or pink pom pom as a tail.
