- 1). Empty the oven of everything but the oven racks. If you have a broiling pan, clean that separately by hand.
- 2). Pour a half gallon of cool tap water into a large cooking pot. Place the pot on the range over high heat until the water comes to a boil.
- 3). Remove the pot from the heat when the water is at a rolling boil. Slowly pour 2/3 cup of ammonia into the pot of hot water.
- 4). Open the oven door and carefully place the pot on any oven rack. If your pot does not have insulated handles, you may need to use pot holders or oven mitts to move it. Close the oven door.
- 5). Keep the oven closed overnight and refrain from using it during this time. Do not open the oven door to check on its progress. After at least eight hours, you can open the door, remove the pot and pour the liquid down the kitchen sink drain.
- 6). Fold a double thickness of paper towels into a square and dampen it with warm tap water. Use the damp pad to slowly and carefully wipe down the top, bottom, walls and rack inside the oven. You'll find that the stains that were once baked-on and hardened are now soft and easy to clean without scrubbing.
- 7). Replace the paper towel pad with a new one as many times as needed until the oven is spotless.
