- 1). Determine whether the Airport card needs power. Click the "Wi-Fi" icon at the top of your Finder. If you do not see a Wi-Fi icon at the top of your Finder, you should check the power cord.
- 2). Obtain a User's Manual for your computer model. This manual describes where the Airport card is installed. On PowerMac G4 desktops, you open the computer through the release latch on the side of the tower. The Airport card is located on the motherboard next to the processor. On laptops, the Airport card is plugged into a compartment under or to the side of the battery.
- 3). Check the power cord. This is a small black wire that plugs into the top of the Airport card. If the power cord is not plugged in, plug it into the small hole on the top of the card. Push the Airport card farther into the card interface to make sure that it is properly connected.
- 4). Go back to your computer screen to see whether the Wi-Fi symbol has reappeared. If the Wi-Fi symbol has not reappeared, you can run a software update. Click the "Apple" icon at the top of the "Finder" and then click the "Software Update" tab. Wait for the computer to check for available updates to your system.
- 5). Click the "Airport" update and then click the "Install Updates" button at the bottom of the software window. Wait for the update to install on your system. This might take two to three minutes to complete. Click the "Restart" button after the software update has completed.
- 6). Take your computer to an Apple retail store to have it looked at by a professional technician if you still can't tell whether the Airport card is dead.
