- 1). Turn off your computer. Unplug the power cable from the back.
- 2). Remove the screws holding the side panels on your computer with the Phillips screwdriver. Set the screws aside and slide the side panels toward the back of the computer until they come loose. Set aside the side panels. Remove the front face of your computer by undoing the latches from the inside, if applicable.
- 3). Locate a suitable drive bay for the card reader, choosing one that will allow you to access the card reader's slots from the front of the computer when installed. Remove the front drive bay cover by poking it out from the inside with the tip of the Phillips screwdriver. If you are installing two card reading devices, remove another drive bay cover.
- 4). Remove the card reader, or readers, from any anti-static packaging. Attach the cables to the back of the card readers.
- 5). Insert each card reader into the computer by feeding the cables in from the front, then sliding the card readers into the drive bays. Push the card readers in until the faces line up flush with the front of the computer.
- 6). Fasten each card reader into place using the included screws and the Phillips screwdriver.
- 7). Attach the ends of the card reader cables to the computer's motherboard. Internal memory card readers attach to the motherboard via the internal USB connector pins. The plug will have nine pins arranged in a rectangular pattern. The plug can only be attached to the motherboard's USB connection one way due to a notch in the plug.
- 8). Reattach the front face to the computer, if applicable. Slide the side panels into place on the side of the computer and fasten each panel into place with the screws removed in step 2. Tighten the screws with the Phillips screwdriver.
- 9). Reconnect the power cable to the back of the computer.
- 10
Turn the computer on and allow the operating system to detect the memory card readers. Click "Yes" when prompted to automatically detect the device drivers. A message will display indicating that the devices have been installed. - 11
Restart the computer and allow the operating system to load. Click the "Start" menu and select "My Computer" to view the installed media drives. - 12
Insert a memory card into the appropriate slot on one of the memory card readers. Monitor the media drive icon and double-click on the icon that reads the name of the memory card to open the memory card. - 13
Repeat step 12 to test the other memory card reader. Accessing the inserted memory cards indicate that the installation is successful.
