- 1). Open your software program and load your project or begin a new one. Create your multipatch structures as normal, until they are finalized and need no further modifications.
- 2). Measure the length of each side around the base of the structure. Your structure may not have a perfectly square base, and you may have to measure more than four sides. Keep in mind that your design may also change as it rises.
- 3). Add the measurements of each side of the base, or part attached to the ground, to find its base perimeter. This is the most common perimeter to find as many structures are the widest at the base and the proper knowledge of land measurements is required to accurately space structures so they are not too close or too far from each other.

Measure the area of higher levels if you desire or need to know their perimeters. A case in which this would be necessary is if a building has a thin base and structure but increases in width in the middle or at the top of its design. Then you need to know the total air space it occupies and treat its widest perimeter as if it is at the base so other structures can be spaced far enough away from the primary structure that they will not conflict with the widened section as they rise. - 5). Add the measurements of these higher levels to find their perimeters.
