- 1). Turn off the power to the outlet where you will be working. If you are unsure of the circuit where you will be installing the transformer, turn off the main breaker to the house. Do not work on live circuits; there is a significant risk of injury or death.
- 2). Remove the outlet cover plate and the mounting screws for the outlet. Pull the outlet out of the junction box and unscrew the wires leading into the outlet. Standard wires should have a green ground wire, a black wire and a white wire. If the wires are not colored accordingly, mark them with electrical tape before removing them from the outlet. Ground goes to the green terminal, black goes to the brass terminal, and white goes to the chrome terminal.
- 3). Connect the input wiring to the transformer box. It should be labeled with an input (or "Primary Leads") and an output area (or "Secondary Leads"). The input must be your 110 volt wiring and the output will be 24 volt. Connect the white wire to the white terminal and the black to the black. Connect the green wire to the ground terminal (if one is present) or to the ground screw at the back of the junction box (if no ground is available on the transformer).
- 4). Connect your 24 volt appliances to the output side of the transformer. Mount everything into the junction box. Switch on the power at the breaker box and test your 24 volt appliance.
