Riding dirt bikes has always been one of my passions.
I do everything from trails to climbing hills and occasionally I will go to the track.
If you are like me, when you go riding, you want to get on the dirt as fast as you possibly can.
However, there are a few things you need to check on your bike before every ride.
Trust me, it is better to go through this list then be 12 miles into the desert wondering, "How in the world am I going to get my bike back?" Not only that, but if you keep these things in check then your bike will last longer and you will be able to avoid an expensive repair.
1) The first thing you want to check is your oil.
This is especially important, yet, it is easy to do.
Just check your oil levels and make sure they are where they need to be.
On top of that, you need to change your oil every few rides.
Changing your oil every few rides is really one of the best things you can do for your bike.
2) The next thing you should check is radiator fluid.
Radiator fluid is important because it is what keeps your engine cool.
If you don't have enough fluid your bike will over heat very easy which can lead to some rather unpleasant problems.
To check your radiator fluid, just unscrew the cap of your radiator and make sure it's filled up to the top.
3) You will also want to take a look at the air pressure in your tires.
Generally, go with 11 psi in the front and 12 psi in the back for hard pack.
For rocky trails and off-road you should go with 13 psi in the front and 14 psi in the back as you need more pressure to prevent flats.
You should be somewhere in between if conditions are loamy.
Keep in mind you might need more than 13 or 14 psi in extreme conditions, but most of the time you don't.
4) Next, make sure your air filter is clean.
If your air filter is dirty it can actually harm your engine so it is a good idea to check this before every ride.
If it needs to be cleaned; clean it.
Once again, these are things that you need to check before every ride.
Your bike will end up lasting a lot longer and performing better if you do.
