How to Decrease Alkalinity in Swimming Pools

    • 1). Turn the power to the pool pump off by either disconnecting the electrical cord from the outlet or turning the circuit breaker off.

    • 2). Measure the correct amount of muratic acid needed for the size of your swimming pool into the metal bucket.

    • 3). Add an equal amount of water to the muratic acid to dilute the acid.

    • 4). Pour the solution into the deep end of the pool for in-ground swimming pools. For above-ground swimming pools, pour around the circumference of the pool.

    • 5). Allow the solution to set for 20 to 30 minutes. Restore power to the pump and allow the filtration system to cycle the water and acid for an hour. Repeat these steps anytime the alkalinity must be lowered.
