How to Make Crystal Gem Bracelets

    • 1). Design your bracelet. Usually, crystal and gemstone bracelets use small crystals and larger nuggets of gemstone, because if you use very large crystals, your pieces usually end up looking a little vulgar. You can alternate a crystal with a gemstone for a classic look, or you can include sterling silver bead caps and spacers to spice up your design with a little metallic shine.

    • 2). Cut a 1-inch length of wire and use your round-nose pliers to form a small loop at its end. Slide one of your crystal beads onto the wire and then form another loop on the other side of the wire with the pliers. This forms one crystal bead link. Repeat this step as necessary to create as many links as you need.

    • 3). Cut a 2-inch length of wire and form a loop the same way that you did in Step 2. Then add one of your gemstone beads to this wire and loop the other end around. The extra length in this step is due to the larger size of most gemstones; if you have chosen to use small gemstones that are approximately the same size as your crystals, you can use just 1 inch of wire to make these bead links.

    • 4). Grasp a jump ring with two pairs of chain-nose pliers and twist the ends of the jump ring in opposite directions to open it. Then thread the opened ring through one crystal bead link and one gemstone bead link, and close it again with the pliers. You should now have a very short chain composed of a gemstone attached to a crystal.

    • 5). Repeat Step 4 as many times as necessary to create a bracelet of your desired length, alternating crystal links with your gemstone links. Remember to leave about 1/2 to 1 inch at the end for a clasp.

    • 6). Open another jump ring as described in Step 4 and thread it through the last bead link on your chain and the loop of one side of your clasp. Close the jump ring to attach that half-clasp to one side of your bracelet. Repeat this step to add the other side of the clasp to the other end of your bracelet. Your crystal and gemstone bracelet is now ready to wear.
