- 1). Turn off the water to the faucet by turning both shut-off valves under the sink clockwise until hand-tight. Turn both of the faucet's handles to full blast to ensure the flow of water has ceased. If the faucet still works, close the house's main water valve.
- 2). Insert an Allen wrench into the small hole in the side of the handle's base. Pull the handle off of the base, and remove the washer and plastic bonnet from the base. Wiggle the base as you pull it up and off the faucet assembly.
- 3). Use a wrench to wiggle the vale stem back and forth as you pull up until the valve stem comes out of the faucet. Use the old valve stem as a guide for buying a replacement, purchasing a valve stem that looks the same and is the same color.
- 4). Spread plumber's grease on the new valve stem, especially on the stem's threads and washers. Insert the faucet handle's base onto the top of the valve stem so it sits firmly in place and the top of the valve stem comes through the opening in the top of the handle's base.
- 5). Slide the handle's washer over the top of the valve stem. Slide the plastic bonnet piece over the valve stem, with the raised edge pointed up. Insert the handle over the top of the bonnet and use the Allen wrench to tighten the screw in the side of the handle. Turn the water to the faucet back on and check for any leaks.
