- Biosil has three main components that help it work: collagen, elastin and keratin. The collagen helps to reduce lines and wrinkles and gives the skin a more youthful appearance. It also keeps future wrinkles from appearing. Keratin is a protein found in the hair follicles that helps keep hair strong and thick. It can also help keep nails strong and healthy. Elastin gives skin and hair the ability to “bounce back” from injury and age.
- According to iHerb.com, the recommended amount of Biosil for skin and hair is five drops twice a day mixed in a 1/4 cup of juice or other liquid. If you are taking the supplement for healthy bones, then the recommended amount is six drops once a day in a 1/4 cup of juice or other liquid. It is only when the recommended amount of Biosil is exceeded that side effects occur.
- To date, the only side effects that have been reported are from those that have ingested more than the recommended amount of Biosil. Side effects are diarrhea, bloating and digestive disorders. If taken correctly, there are no side effects associated with using Biosil.
- Many people have confused Biosil with another supplement called horse tail extract. Even though they are both skin vitamins, horse tail extract is a form of silica while Biosil is a form of orthosilicic acid. Horse tail extract has one side effect that Biosil doesn’t have; high doses can cause vitamin B1 deficiency. Such a deficiency can cause confusion, difficulty with vision and a nervous system disorder.
- Any side effects from taking more than the suggested amount of Biosil are not life threatening and only cause slight discomfort until the symptoms pass. If you experience severe enough side effects that it affects your day-to-day life you should consult your primary care provider.
