- 1). Choose the type and color of dye for your curtains. There are a variety of liquid and powder dyes available in many colors for a wide range of fibers.
- 2). Mix the dye according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- 3). Fill the washing machine with enough hot water to cover the curtains. Make sure there is enough water to allow the curtains to move freely within the machine.
- 4). Presoak the curtains in a bath of hot water, making certain that every fiber is saturated. Crumple, crinkle and twist the water out of the curtain in between soaking it to ensure all fibers are reached.
- 5). Add the dye to the hot water in the washing machine and mix it into the water thoroughly. Add the curtains as well.
- 6). Adjust the settings of the washing machine according to the dye manufacturer's instructions. Some fabrics need to soak longer than others, but nearly all dyes require hot water constantly to be successful. Allow the machine to saturate the fibers with dye.
- 7). Rinse the curtains using cool or cold water. Continue running the rinse cycle on the washing machine until the water runs clear.
- 8). Dry the curtains thoroughly in a clothes dryer or by hanging them up to dry.
