- 1). Make sure you have a completed resume. Your potential employer will have many people to choose from, and sometimes a resume may be the quickest way for them to view your credentials. If you are not proficient in creating a resume, hire a professional resume writer or get assistance by visiting your local Department of Labor.
- 2). Determine the type of industry you want to go into so you can choose online job sites that will maximize job leads. If you are in an industry that relies on creativity like web designing or graphic design, you may want to visit online sites that offer jobs specifically for creative professionals. Or if you have are more analytical background like in accounting, there may be sites specifically for you as well.
- 3). Register on the job sites where you can bid for positions. There are a number of websites that allow freelancers and other professionals to bid on full-time or part-time employment. For example, accountants, lawyers and writers can bid on projects by going to sites like Elance.com. Employers will inform you of the amount of money they are willing to pay, responsibilities and roles of the position. These sites are free to join and all you need to do is create a username, password and have a valid e-mail address.
- 4). Narrow down the employers that are specifically looking for the services you can provide. Once you have located a potential employer, submit your resume and bid on the project based on how much you are willing to get paid if the potential employer does not mention it.
- 5). Contact the employer directly. Some jobseekers assume that just because the offer is made online you cannot contact the employer directly. Send either an e-mail or fax or make a phone call to the potential employer unless a job ad specifically states no phone calls.
