- 1). Figure out exactly what you want to sell. If you are specializing in high end vintage clothing you may not want to hit the thrift stores and other sources of cheap clothing.
- 2). Determine what kind of price point you will be selling at and what your costs are. Your costs should include the risk of items not selling. In general do not buy an item for resale if you do not think that you can get at least three times the amount that you paid for it.
- 3). Now examine your options for finding used and vintage clothing to sell online. If you are just starting out, your local thrift store and resale shops can be a good place to begin. You will have to be selective as not all the items you find will have high resale potential. Another starting place is to look on online auction sites for lots of clothing that can be broken up and sold individually.
- 4). Once you have some experience you can start buying in bulk. Many larger vintage and resale stores will sell wholesale lots of clothing to you. These can be good sources of high quality merchandise, but you have to be careful to make sure you are getting the items cheap enough to make a profit. For larger orders you can buy in bulk from rag companies who sell used and vintage clothes wholesale. For this option you will have to have a tax id number.
