Tired of the confusion about what to do to speed your metabolism and lose weight? "Do THIS! But don't do that! Eat THIS, but don't eat that!" Sometimes researching too much weight loss info can actually hold you back from ever getting started.

I know that it can be quite frustrating when you're all revved up to go but have no clue as to where to start. So I've taken some time out to jot down an easy step that will produce results. There's nothing magic about my advice here. Just do it consistently and you will start to see some real changes in your body.

Let me just say first off, that there is no ONE thing that will take off layers and layers of accumulated fat and the "best" things all depend on your body type. Losing weight requires a lifestyle change (that includes nutrition and exercise) that you have to be committed to keeping for good. If you quit your plan and go back to your old ways (not eating right and not exercising), the fat will come back and you know that. Consistency is key.

To speed your metabolism every day, the first thing you need to do is start eating a healthy breakfast within one hour of waking up. No, not a big coffee and doughnut or fast food, but rather a meal full of nutrients and fiber. This will jump start your body every morning so you have enough energy to make it to your next meal. Here's a good analogy for you. It's like filling up the gas tank of your luxury car with top-quality gas before a long trip. You can't expect your car to make it on a tank full of water or nothing at all and you can't expect your body to make it running off of sugar. Making excuses about not having time for breakfast is not acceptable if you want to lose weight. Spend that time on something better, like preparing a good meal.

Green Tea- This is great to have in the morning because it is known to speed your metabolism and wake you up without a horrible crash like caffeine. Consuming a glass of green tea (either cold or hot) with breakfast will count towards your daily liquid intake. However, if you're not crazy about the taste, you can take it in the form of a supplement with a glass of drinking water or fresh squeezed orange juice.

Fiber- This is what keeps you feeling full much longer than a sugary or fatty breakfast. Some ideas are cold cereals that are high in fiber (10 grams or so) or high-fiber toast, english muffins, pancakes or traditional oatmeal. If you prefer instant oatmeal, go for an organic brand since it goes through much less processing.

Protein- Proteins are the building blocks for every cell in your body. Deficiencies in protein can result in muscle loss, fat gain, and a whole slew of other health issues. Add protein to your breakfast with eggs, organic peanut butter, chicken or turkey sausage or cottage cheese.

Fruits- This is an example of those "good carbs" you hear about. They're "good" because they slow down your digestive system to keep you feeling more satisfied than sugary foods do. Mix fruit into your pancake mix, put it on top of them or add it to cottage cheese or yogurt. You can also opt to have fruit on the side or a fresh squeezed juice.

I can't stress enough how important it is to combine the foods mentioned above for the best results. This is because they work together to create different chemical reactions that will help speed your metabolism by themselves. Eating a nutritional breakfast will help start your morning off right, give you energy to last for hours, and put you in a good mood to you can take on your day with full force. That's probably more than you were thinking breakfast could do, huh?
