- 1). Place you hand on the car's surface and feel for any dents or high spots. Use a body hammer to gently tap high spots down until they are dents. Repair all dents by sanding them down to bare metal and filling them with body filler using a squeegee. Let the filler dry for 30 minutes.
- 2). Use the long sanding block and 220 grit sandpaper to sand the dried filler. Sand until the filler is smooth and level with the surrounding surface of the car.
- 3). Spray all areas of body filler with primer. Use one thick coat and cover every section of filler. Let the primer dry for 30 minutes.
- 4). Use the sanding block and 400-grit sandpaper to sand the entire car, including the areas of primer. Hold a water hose over the sandpaper to keep the sandpaper soaked while sanding. This keeps buildup from occuring and scratching the car. Repeat this using the 800- and 1200-grit sandpaper. Rinse the car when finished and allow it to dry completely.
- 5). Wipe the car down with wax and grease remover using a microfiber towel. This removes any remaining grease from fingerprints and wax contaminants from old cleaners or waxes. The surface is now ready for metallic paint.
