Home & Garden Do It Yourself

Urban Living

Recently, planet earth celebrated it's 7 billionth person!That's billion with a €B.€

It's an astonishing number that will make you wonder where are these people live and work. For most of us this number is incomprehensible. I am willing to bet some beaches do not have 7 billion grains of sand on their shore. It's A LOT of people.

With this amount of people roaming our planet our living quarters have become more and more cramped. Real estate has become more and more of a premium.. especially if you care to be anywhere near the water.

Developer's have forced their hand on us as they continue to build monstrosities that tower straight up into the sky. They do this so that they can offer the maximum amount of living quarters on the smallest amount of land.

While many urban dwellers appreciate the architectural advancements that make this possible, the majority of us feel like we are becoming more and more like the ant communities we see at our feet (those of us that still have grass nearby our homes). Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of places to live outside of the constraining city life, however, some of our citizens are forced into situation of living urban to survive. Financially, it may be easier to afford life if you have public transportation, live within a reasonable proximity to your job, or if healthcare if often needed.

So what can these people that want to live the country life do to tolerate the city life?

They have to surround themselves with the things that remind them of home. Static cling window film is a great place to start. A company called Create My Scene makes a decorative window film that has prints of nature scenes on the surface. You can easily hide your nearby neighbor with a scene from this company.

The food you eat can have an affect on your mentality too. Just because you are living the fast paced life does mean you need to eat the fast paced food. Stay away from fast-food joints and treat yourself to home cooked meals often. Comfort food is a category on southern menus for a reason.

The people you surround yourself with is important, also. If you cannot associate with like minded friends, then you may never make it through journey in the urban jungle. There are plenty of transplants just like yourself running around the big city. They should be easy to spot. Strike up a conversation and get to know them.
