- Making your own HDTV antenna can save you money. Building a homemade high-definition antenna can cost between $8 and $10. The materials you will need are cheap and easy to find.
- To make a high-definition antenna, you will need a wire coat hanger, sandpaper, needle-nose pliers, two small machine bolts with washers and nuts, an RG-6 coaxial cable with F-type connectors and a 300- to 75-ohm transformer.
- To make the antenna, untwist the the top of the coat hanger. Bend the hanger to form a diamond shape, then use the sandpaper to smooth the ends of the coat hanger. Use the pliers to twist the ends of the hanger to form small circles. Slot a bolt into one of the circles, and fit the bolt with a washer. Put the nut onto the bolt and tighten. Repeat this process with the other circle. Fix the RG-6 wire onto the F-type connector portion of the transformer.Thread the RG-6 wire through the circles on the coat hanger. Connect the other end of the transformer to your television. Find the best place for the antenna to give you the best picture.
