Troubleshooting a Littermaid Model LM500 Litter Box

    • 1). Locate the "Full Line" inside the basin of the litter box. Check to make sure you have not overfilled it with excessive litter.

    • 2). Find the two motion sensors; they are located toward the front of the litter tray on either wall. Wipe the sensors down, thoroughly removing any dust with a soft, dry cloth.

    • 3). Remove whatever litter you are currently using if it is not premium-grade clumping style. Fill the litter tray with new premium-grade clumping litter.

    • 4). Turn the "On/Off" switch to "Off." Open the battery compartment and make sure the batteries have been properly placed and inserted into the machine.

    • 5). Attempt to use the AC adapter if the batteries fail to conduct power through the machine by plugging it in to the input jack and the wall outlet. Make sure the wall outlet is functioning correctly by testing the plug on another wall outlet.

    • 6). Remove the litter tray and clean it out using mild detergent and the soft cloth dampened with silicone spray. Clean the rake using the same method.

    • 7). Check the light display by flipping the "On/Off" switch back and forth and examining the power supply to make sure that the machine is receiving adequate power.

    • 8). Replace full waste storage receptacles with new, clean ones and throw away the used containers.
