- 1). Measure, mark and cut eight 3-by-18-inch pieces of fabric. Fold each one in half lengthwise with right sides together. Stitch the long, raw edge together with a 1/4-inch seam. Stitch one short end closed with a 1/4-inch seam. Cut the corners of the stitched short end off, leaving the seam intact.
- 2). Place the eraser end of a pencil on the seam of the short end. Slide the fabric tube down over the pencil bunching the fabric as you work. Pull the pencil out.
- 3). Fill the fabric tube by pushing cotton batting into the tube with the eraser end of the pencil. Repeat with the other seven tubes.
- 4). Measure, mark and cut two circles with a 5-inch diameter. Measure, mark and cut a rectangle 16 1/2-by-4 inches.
- 5). Pin the raw edges of the eight fabric tubes to one fabric circle, right sides together. The length of the tubes must be inside the circle. Pin the length of the rectangle around the circle with the fabric tubes between.
- 6). Stitch around the circle. Stitch the rectangle closed. Pin the other circle to the rectangle, right sides together. Keep the eight legs curled inside. Stitch the circle leaving 3 inches of the seam open.
- 7). Turn the octopus inside-out. Fill the body with cotton batting. Hand-stitch the opening closed. Draw a face with permanent marker.
