- 1). Pull the dryer away from the wall so that the rear is accessible. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet prior to disassembling the dryer.
- 2). Remove the rear panel of the dryer by removing the screws securing the panel to the cabinet.
- 3). Pull the wire off the high-limit thermostat, located on the heating element terminal.
- 4). Pull the high-limit thermostat off the heating element terminal.
- 5). Pull the wire off the other heating element terminal.
- 6). Set the multimeter to the lowest setting to measure ohms of resistance, then calibrate the meter. Refer to the owner's manual of your meter for specific instructions.
- 7). Touch one of the multimeter probes to one of the terminals on the heating element. Touch the other probe to the other terminal on the heating element.
- 8). Look at the multimeter's display with both probes touching the terminals. If the meter does not move, or displays an infinite number of ohms of resistance, then the element is nonfunctional and must be replaced. If the display moves, indicating continuity, then the element is functioning properly.
