- 1). Research areas of Taiwan where you would like to work. Taipei has the largest selection of jobs, but positions can be found in more rural areas as well. Make a list of the schools in each area where you want to apply. (See Resources for links to help you in your search.)
- 2). Visit each school's website and compile a list of email addresses for the foreign affairs contact persons.
- 3). Email your cover letter, resume, copy of degree/transcripts, passport information page and recent photo to each school. Provide convenient times for the school to contact you from the Taiwan time zone.
- 4). Arrange interviews with the schools that respond to your resume. Write down details of each position, such as salary, housing, airfare reimbursement and vacation during the interview. This information will help you make a decision later on.
- 5). Choose a position from the schools who make employment offers. The school will send you an employment approval letter.
- 6). Take your employment approval letter along with your passport, a visa application, a passport photo and a visa issuance fee to the nearest Taiwanese consular office to apply for a residence visa (see Resources for a list).
- 7). Book your ticket to Taiwan, making sure to find out from the school on what day you should arrive to settle in and apply for your Alien Registration Certificate.
- 8). Visit the nearest city or county police headquarters within 15 days of arriving to apply for your Alien Registration Certificate. Make sure to bring your passport and an extra passport photo. Apply for a multiple entry certificate if you plan to travel outside of Taiwan during your contract. Have fun teaching in Taiwan.
