    • The 1964 Pontiac Tempest came with a 215-cubic-inch, in-line six-cylinder, valve-in-head type engine. It had a bore and stroke of 3.75 inches by 3.25 inches, with a compression ratio of 8.6:1. It produced 140 horsepower at 4,200 rpm and 206 ft-lbs of torque at 2,000 rpm. It used a downdraft single-barrel Rochester carburetor.

    Chassis

    • The 1964 Tempest Series 20 sedan had a Fisher body with a semi-floating axle and a hypoid differential with a ratio of 3.08:1. The synchronous three-speed manual transmission used a dry plate clutch. The front independent suspension used ball joints and coil springs, with coil springs in the rear. The steering gear was a recirculating ball-and-nut type. The brakes featured hydraulic drums.

    Dimensions

    • This 2,970-lb. car was 203 inches long, 73.3 inches wide and 54 inches tall, with a 115-inch wheelbase. The front and rear treads measured 58 inches.
