How to Tighten a Belt on a Maytag Washer

    • 1). Disconnect the power cord before servicing the Maytag washer. Turn off the hot and cold water faucets connected to the inlet hoses.

    • 2). Disconnect the water inlet hoses on the back of the washer. Place the ends of the hoses on a towel to absorb any water that spills out.

    • 3). Lay the Maytag washer on its front so the bottom of the unit can be accessed.

    • 4). Loosen the bolts connecting the motor to the cabinet. Move the motor assembly toward the edge of the washer until the belt is tight. Tighten the motor assembly bolts.

    • 5). Press on the belt to see if it is tight enough. The belt should only give way 1/4 inch. Repeat the previous step if the belt is not tight enough.

    • 6). Lift the washer back onto its feet. Screw the water inlet hoses back into their nozzles on the back of the Maytag washing machine, and plug the machine back into the electrical outlet.
