- 1). The sprinkler system comes with a 9-volt battery. Install the battery in the sprinkler head.
- 2). Attach a good hose to the sprinkler using clockwise motions. Don't turn the water on yet.
- 3). Plant the sprinkler stake in the ground in the area you want to protect. According to the manufacturer, the Scarecrow's water stream can cover a 1,300-square-foot area.
- 4). The sprinkler also comes with a bracket and screws if you want to mount it instead of planting it in the ground. Screw the bracket into the desired mount with a screwdriver and mount the sprinkler head.
- 5). Give the sprinkler a "dry run" test. With the water still off, set the sensitivity to four or five. Wave your hand in front of the motion detector and listen for the "click" of the valve opening up. If it doesn't open, check your battery; if it still doesn't open, turn the water on and try again, making sure to stay behind the sprinkler to avoid getting wet.
- 6). Adjust the sensitivity level to suit your target animal. The smaller the animal, and the greater the area you wish to protect, the higher the sensitivity setting should be. The larger the animal and the smaller the area, the lower the sensitivity level.
- 7). Lower or raise the water deflector dial to determine the distance you want the water arc to reach. Lowering the dial shortens the arc distance, while raising it lengthens the distance.
