How to Stop a Squeaking Dryer

    • 1). Turn off and unplug the dryer. Disassemble it by using your screwdriver to remove the screws on the inside of the door opening, facing up. Loosen and remove the screws inside the machine facing forward to take off the front panel and door of the dryer.

    • 2). Examine the exposed drum and rubber belt running around it. Locate the place at the bottom of the drum where the belt lifts away from the drum surface to snake through the pulleys of the motor. Use your sidewalk chalk to mark on the drum in that area, next to the belt.

    • 3). Turn the drum slowly with one hand while applying a steady stream of belt dressing from the spray can to the exposed backside of the belt where it rises off the drum.

    • 4). Keep turning the drum and spraying until the chalk mark comes back around in front of you, indicating that it has turned a full circle and the entire belt has been sprayed.

    • 5). Put the dryer back together, using reverse steps from those you took to assemble it. Put clothes in it for weight, and run to test if the squeak is gone.
