- 1). Adjust all the cables. Ensure all of the computer cables are properly connected to the monitor by pushing them all in securely. Turn your computer on.
- 2). Adjust the brightness/contrast of your computer. On a desktop, the brightness and contrast buttons will be under the lip of the monitor. On a laptop, the brightness/contrast buttons are typically on the "Up" and "Down" arrows. Press "Function" and the up arrow to increase the brightness; press "Function" and the down arrow to decrease the brightness. Do this until the color looks normal.
- 3). Adjust the display color. Click on the "Start" button, then "Control Panel." Double-click "Display" from the Control Panel, then click the "Appearance" tab. To change your computer to its defaults, select "Windows XP Style" from the first drop-down box, select "Default (blue)" color from the second box and from the third box, select the "Normal" font size.
- 4). Turn the computer off. Remove the monitor from the computer and plug in a new monitor--or one that you know works--into the computer. Turn the computer back on. If the display looks correct, then the old monitor is broken and needs to be taken into a computer/electronic specialist. If the new monitor's color also looks disoriented, then there's a problem with the computer.
