It is widely known that a massive polar shift, or a reversal of the magnetic poles, is predicted to occur in 2012.
This is the basic theory behind many 2012 doomsday believers.
But what are the effects of a polar shift if it actually would happen? Some people say it simply cannot happen in a fast period of time, while others say it may happen but who knows if it will happen in 2012.
But the 2012 doomsday theorists believe that the poles will shift dramatically in 2012, and this fast pole shifting will yield chaos and destruction.
Are the effects of a polar shift that happens so quickly really strong hurricanes, giant tsunamis, mega typhoons, and volcanic eruptions all over the world? The fact is that the geomagnetic reversal may not erase the human civilization from existence.
But, it will effect satellites, TV, GPS, cell phones, and internet.
So our modern way of living will revert back at least decades, if not centuries.
Think about all of the things we rely on ships and planes to bring us - including food, supplies, and even energy sources.
Further, migratory animals will be confused by which direction to travel, and chaos will ensue in the animal kingdom as migratory confusion leads to food chain issues.
But what if those who believe that the polar shift will fast, occurring in just a matter of days? The effects of a polar shift that happens this fast would be cataclysmic.
This is where the massive hurricanes, tsunamis and volcanoes would come into effect.
Experts largely agree that this super-fast shifting of the poles has no basis in actual science, and it takes hundreds of years for the poles to completely reverse.
However, another doomsday scenario for 2012 does need to be reviewed.
There is a belief that a mysterious Planet X, or Nibiru, approaches the earth every 3,600 years and is due to make another visit in 2012.
With this body passing so close to the earth, it is theoretically possible that the effects of a polar shift would be more drastic.
This planet passing close to the earth could cause a fast shifting of the earth's poles which would give us these devastating natural events.
Some people suggest that if Planet X theories hold true, only about 10% of the earth's population will survive.
Whether you look at the gradual effects of a polar shift or the most frightening effects of a shift caused by the approaching theorized Planet X, the fact is that much evidence points to a major and devastating event occurring in 2012.
As with most things in life, you want to be prepared for these events to protect yourself and your family as much as possible.
This means learning survival strategies so you can live off the land if necessary, as well as having stockpiles of food and water on hand in your home.
You need to take steps now to prepare yourself for 2012, because by the time these theories have been proven true, it will simply be too late to prepare.
