The life that we lead coupled with a sedentary lifestyle does not allow us to avoid stress on our bodies.
The result can be aches, pains and strains.
Severe joints pain is caused by inflammation of the cartilage or other elements or by wear and tear damage to the joint.
The damage to the joints can be avoided if we become aware of the importance of joint health early in our life.
In elderly and overweight people the bones become eroded and the cartilage wears away.
Joints pain occurs when there is a disorder in the soft tissues such as muscles, tendons and the other connective tissues around the joints that connect, support or surround other structures in the skeletal system of the body.
These tissues perform an extremely vital role to safeguard our joints and to make the joint mechanism work smoothly when we perform physical tasks during the course of a normal work day.
Some disorders of the bone can also cause pain in the joints.
Continuous stress on the joints can result in an infection in the bone, it causes inflammation and the joint next to the affected bone swells and stiffens causing joints pain.
Injuries, torn tissues caused by accidents, falls or direct blows causes joints pain.
These tend to take a long time to heal.
The bones are bound together by strong ligaments in the ankle joint.
When there is a tear or strain in the ligament there is pain in the joint.
Painkillers may help in the short term to relieve the pain.
Since painkillers mask the sensation of pain they may cause further damage.
So, it is always better to consult a medical practitioner before starting treatment for joints pain.
Otherwise what may take two weeks to recover may take about three months to recover.
Reducing pressure on the joints especially while bending, maintaining good posture while at your desk or while watching television and watching your weight helps to prevent joints pain.
Also remember to take regular exercise like calisthenics, swimming etc.
that puts the joints through its full range of movements.
These exercises are extremely safe as they do not involve the lifting of weights or do not place any heavy stress on the joints.
Your therapist may be able to show you therapeutic activities to improve joint function and mobility and recommend simple ways such as protective wraps or warming packs to help you to manage the pain.
