- Epoxy grout is commonly used because of being moisture and chemical resistant. Whether you choose to use this or a cement-based grout, the pH balance of the water is very important. Especially in the cases of a cement-based grout, if the pH balance is not neutralized at all times, the chemicals can start to eat away at the grout, causing the tiles to pull away from the pool.
- Choosing to use swimming pool grout that is colored in the same or a similar hue gives the appearance of a smooth surface. For example, if you have blue colored tiles and grout in the same color, it will look like a shiny pool of blue water. Red hued tile and grout will visually tint the water as well. This technique works for any solid color design you choose.
- Choosing swimming pool grout in a different hue than the tile will make the tiles stand out. For example, turquoise pool tiles grouted in black or white creates two totally different looks. If your pool patio area is decorated in a breezy or beach-like theme, white grout will help to tie the swimming area in. If you favor black wrought iron outdoor furniture and more modern decorative patterns and elements, a black grout stands out as more contemporary.
- Accent tiles and patterned tiles can also be grouted in a variety of hues. If your swimming pool tiles have multiple colors in them, choose one of the main colors to grout them with so it blends into the pattern. Other pool grout ideas include to go with a simple black or white so the tiles stand out, a color that is not in the tiles anywhere for contrast or talk to your pool installer about a custom hue that contains a sparkle effect for additional drama.
