Every year About.com sponsors a Reader's Choice Awards to find out what readers' favorites are in many different categories. The process starts with nominations, which you as the reader submits, than the tallies are made and the favorites are published. There are no trophy's or prizes. It has nothing to do with politics and it won't change the world. But, it's a fun way to give a thumbs up to some of your favorites.


Since I'm all about New Orleans, I will be hosting the New Orleans Travel Reader's Choice Awards. There are four categories this year; New Orleans restaurants (after all isn't that a big part of the reason you come here?), hotels, festivals and family attractions. Nominate your favorite in each category below.

Nominations start January 18th, and will end on February 15, 2012, at midnight EST. Once the finalists are calculated, you can vote every day to make sure your favorite wins. That will happen from February 22 through March 21, 2012. Reader's Choice Award winners will be announced on March 30, 2012.

Favorite New Orleans Restaurant

Now this is the hard one. How do you pick one to nominate? Well how about nominating two? Maybe it's fine dining in one of the old, classic New Orleans restaurants you enjoy when you come to New Orleans. Places like Commander's Palace, Bayona, Antoine'sArnaud's

Maybe one of these is still your all time favorite. Or maybe you've discovered a new restaurant that you make reservations for as soon as you make your hotel reservations.

If you are one of us who can't wait to sink your teeth into a Muffuletta at the Central Grocery, or a Fried Shrimp Po-Boy at Domilise's, you nomination may be one of New Orleans great neighborhood restaurants. Whatever you like to eat and where you like to eat it in New Orleans is what we're looking for. Nominate your favorite here.

Favorite New Orleans Festival

Are you one of those people who never misses Jazz Fest, or wouldn't spend Fat Tuesday anywhere on the planet but New Orleans? We want to here from you. Or maybe one of the lesser known festivals is your favorite like the French Quarter Festival, one of the Seafood Festivals, the Cajun/Zydeco Festival or the Treme Gumbo Festival.Whatever your favorite is nominate it here.

Favorite Hotel

When you come to New Orleans where do you like to stay? It is a luxurious hotel like the Roosevelt, the Ritz-Carlton, or the Windsor Court? Or are you more the Hilton, Quality Inn or maybe Harrah's Hotel type? Do you select your favorite by location, price, amenities? Let us know. Nominate your favorite New Orleans hotel here.

Favorite Family Attraction

Now this is my favorite catagory. I love the Audubon Zoo and all of Audubon Park. I go there often even if I don't have any kids along. Do your children enjoy making you lunch at the cafe in the Louisiana Children's Museum, or riding the streetcar to get Ice Cream? Then there are some of the new attractions like the Cool Zoo Water Park and Parakeet Pointe. Have they replaced some of the old favorites that were top on the list with your family?
