Animal Welfare and Rights

Have you ever think about the animals that the meat you eat comes from? Maybe you have questions on your mind, maybe you are at all concerned about how they have been treated.  Have they lived well?  Have they been fed on safe, in appropriate foods?  Have they been cared for by someone who respects and enjoys contact with them? Would you like to be sure of that? You can buy from a source that will reassure you towards these points because even if meat production was not environmentally problematic, there are still serious problems with the conditions that many animals are subjected to.

The RSPCA is developing an animal welfare standard for beef as a part of their approved farming scheme. This has been running for more than ten years in Australia and for a fee, approved egg, turkey, chicken and pork producers can display RSPCA welfare approval on their product. The idea of The Freedom Food scheme certifies eggs, dairy, chicken, pork and some prepared foods is to label products from animals that - from farm through to abattoir.

Some are still confuse between animal welfare to rights. What are the difference between animal welfare and animal rights? It is just that animal welfare is concerned with the humane care and treatment of animals whereas an animal right is an agenda that seeks to end ownership and use of animals, period. However, the animal rights movement is a wolf in sheep's clothing like it pretends to be your friend and share your values but it actually seeks to take away your rights. People who make a living as professional animal rights activists have a dangerous agenda that most people would not agree with.

Animal welfare, it means by many as the physical and psychological well-being of animals. This can also mean human concern for animal welfare or a position in a debate on animal ethics and animal rights. Welfare is measured by indicators including physiology, reproduction, behavior, longevity and attitudes towards different types of animal uses.  The simple fact that we are concerned about the welfare of animals is one way of proving that uniqueness.

This is why animal welfare is important. It would have been much more difficult for the animal rights groups to make the progress they have been. This will be perfect world, without cruelty or neglect. Everybody should be concerned with the plight of abused or neglected animals. There ought to be laws protecting them. But remember, the solution to cruelty and neglect in the animal world is not to elevate animals to the level of humans, but to require humans to exercise responsible towards the animals in their care because there are still many people are being shamelessly manipulated by the unscrupulous tactics of the animal rights activists.
