Dog pens are a great tool for dog owners, especially when you want to keep your pet away from your lovely belongings at home, or simply keep them away from other pets.
They are confined enough to achieve your goal, yet have enough room for your dog to be comfortable and even exercise.
For dog owners, we all know the hassle of dogs ruining furniture and other household items, and sometimes it is best for them to be confined for a short while until they behave better.
Dog pens are even used when traveling outside to keep your overactive "puppy" safe from harm.
When putting your animal in a pen, there are a number of precautions you must take first.
It is not as simple as shutting the door and leaving them be.
Firstly, it is important that your dog has enough water inside there, so they do not get dehydrated.
Also, leave ample amount of toys so he/she does not get bored.
If you plan to leave them in there for a long period of time, leave some food in there for sure.
Do not leave the dog pen in a hot, sunny area, if its going to be occupied for an extended period of time.
This will lead to overheating and possibly dehydrating.
Leave the dog pen in a shady, cooler area.
Most pens do not come with a solid roof, and even if yours does (to block the sun), do not put the it in the sun.
The heat for a long period of time will be too much for your pet to handle (especially if he/she has a thick coat of fur).
When picking a pen for your dog, look at many before choosing one.
There are metal pens, plastic pens, and wooden pens.
Wooden pens are generally better for home use and metal and plastic pens are the best for outdoor use.
If you will be using the pen both for outdoor and indoor purposes, a metal pen is usually the best.
Try to look for one with a folding feature, especially if you will be taking it outside a lot.
When you let your dog out of the pen, it is very handy to be able to fold it into a compact pen.
Pens are very affordable, and can even be bought used for cheaper.
