Before you make a claim on a personal injury be sure to start a file just for the accident.
Collect as much physical evidence as possible; the more the better.
Be sure to include your own written summary of what happened.
Include as much detail as possible so that if you forget what happened, you will still have a written report with all the details.
Write down all details of the accident and the severity of your sustained injuries.
Be sure to add to the file any and all bills for medical treatment, doctor reports, police reports, repair estimates and bills, and any communications with the insurance companies involved.
After the accident, be sure to save as much physical evidence as possible.
This could be damaged clothes (bloody clothes), damaged items, cell phones, laptops, etc.
Document the scene of the accident with photographs.
Take pictures of your injuries.
If you sustained property damage; take pictures of that.
Take pictures of the road (if it was an auto accident) and document any skid marks, etc.
Keep a written report of your injuries and how you are feeling.
Document your injuries on a daily basis and include in your report how you are feeling each day.
Include information such as any daily pain, anxiety or depression, not being able to move, or loss of sleep.
Keep a daily report on how it has changed your daily routines and disrupted your life.
There can never be too much documentation.
Always keep this rule of thumb-the more the better.
