- 1). Wear sunglasses to shield eyes from light. Purchase sunglasses that contain UV protection. Talk to your eye care professional regarding transitional lenses for prescription eye glasses. The transitional lenses darken when light becomes brighter.
- 2). Read the side effects for all over-the-counter medications and prescription medications you take, as side effects may include sensitivity to light. Look for over-the-counter medicines that do not have this side effect and talk to your doctor about prescription medications. He may change your medicine, if possible.
- 3). Keep a journal of when the light sensitivity occurs. Does it occur after computer use or reading, or during times of bright sunlight, or under certain lighting conditions? Zeroing in on when the sensitivity occurs may help in figuring out a solution.
- 4). Check your eyes for redness. Infection or injury to the eye may result in sensitive eyes. An accompanying migraine headache also causes light sensitivity. Treatment for these medical issues may minimize or eliminate the problem.
