- 1). Inspect the operation of the door before making a lift adjustment. Often a lift adjustment is not necessary. Pull the emergency release cord to release the door trolley from the opener trolley. The pull cord will be in the area where the garage door arm connects to the opener.
- 2). Pull the door up manually and check for any binding in the door travel. The force adjustment on the garage door opener will stop the door if it encounters resistance. If you do find an area that binds the door, make adjustments and then reconnect the door to the opener. If you find no binding, close the door and reconnect the door trolley to the opener trolley.
- 3). Place a stepladder under the garage door opener so you can access the rear of the motor head. If your opener has a lens cover on the rear of the motor head, remove the cover and set it aside. Either the cover will snap in and out or you may have to remove screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the cover.
- 4). Locate the up and down limit knobs. The knobs are white and protruding with a slot to accept a flat-head screwdriver. Turn the up limit screw clockwise to increase the up limit. You can turn the screw with your fingers or with a flat-head screwdriver. One full turn is equal to 2 inches of travel.
- 5). Open the door using the remote control to operate the garage door opener. The door is fully open when the bottom of the garage door is at the top of the door opening. You can also locate the stop screw that is on the opener rail in front of the motor head. The trolley should be 4 inches away from the stop screw. Keep testing and adjusting until the garage door lifts open fully.
