- 1). Get enough sleep each night. In busy day-to-day life feeling overwhelmed and overworked is common. Without proper sleep you are sabotaging yourself for the next day. Some people require more sleep than others to feel fully refreshed. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier each night until you reach your required level of sleep.
- 2). Make a list of all the positive things in your life. It might be a small list to start with but add to it each time you think of something you are grateful for. Don't focus on just the "big" things, list the small things too. Yes, you are grateful for your job or your children, but add things like a small line at the grocery store or getting a call from a friend at just the right time.
- 3). Spend time helping others. Being able to contribute to people less fortunate often puts your own troubles into perspective. Volunteer at a local soup kitchen or visit a nursing home to help your community and your outlook on life.
- 4). Keep a list of positive affirmations taped to your bathroom mirror or refrigerator. Make your own affirmations based on what you want to feel or accomplish. Place a note on your steering wheel that says "I am talented and knowledgeable. I can accomplish anything I set my mind to." Repeat the affirmation to yourself while driving to work or running errands.
- 5). Do something physical. When your body is active it creates endorphins which aid in feeling good. Take a brisk walk, play with your pet or head to the gym and do a light workout. Do some basic yoga poses to loosen up your muscles and stretch out your body. You do not have to complete a long workout to benefit from endorphins, 10 to 20 minutes of physical activity is typically enough.
