How to Paint Diamond Willow Walking Sticks

    • 1). Remove the varnish top-coat by sanding it with 80- to 120-grit sandpaper. Continue sanding until the surface feels slightly dull and rough to the touch, indicating that all of the laminate has been removed.

    • 2). Wipe down the surface of the diamond willow walking stick with a rag dampened with mineral spirits. Allow the surface to dry for 10 minutes.

    • 3). Lay the walking stick on top of a heavy-duty cloth drop cloth.

    • 4). Spray one side with oil-based spray primer. Spray in intermittent bursts rather than one steady stream. Allow the surface to dry for two hours.

    • 5). Flip the surface over, and apply primer to the other side..Allow the surface to dry for two hours.

    • 6). Apply oil-based spray paint in the same manner as you did the primer.
