Surfing has become a popular recreational activity and sport these days, and because of that more and more people suddenly wanna surf. But, not all interested surfers can hit the waves successfully. There are a lot of reasons why people who wanna surf can't do that. But the greatest contributing factor among all the possible reasons is the failure of some surfing schools to provide the best education newbie surfers need.
Surfing schools is a popular topic.
Even though marketing forces kept on making us believe otherwise, majority of the surfers are not so ecstatic about the introduction of modern surf schools. Although there are a lot of good surf schools today, surfers often blame these schools for filling the line-up with people who are not adept in surfing. This is an over simplification of the problem, and pointing the finger at the entire surf school industry is misguided.
But the major issue is that a lot of people want to surf and they wanna surf now. They have the slightest idea of its difficulty and they want to make some short cuts. They aim to have the ability of a surfer in ten years and to have that in just two weeks. Unfortunately some surf schools take advantage of this situation. The schools know that if they tell the truth about the complications of surfing in real life, they will have fewer enrollees.
This omission of the fact is a large injustice to any one who studies surfing. All newcomers must be able to trust the information that is given to them by the surf school operator whom they have paid to train them about surfing. But it's a sad reality that for many cases they simply can't do it.
Also since learners naturally assume that they must be able to trust all the so-called surf instructors to guide them accordingly. These learners no longer ask the more experienced surfers in the water for guidance. And conversely more experienced surfers don't anymore offer it. So that means we have a self perpetuating dysfunctional cycle.
The root of the problem is this - you simply cannot teach anyone to surf in a couple of hours let alone a couple of weeks, it's just not possible. Anyone who says that they can is actually putting profit ahead of principles. The absolute best that a surf school can provide is to provide you a glimpse of what it would be like to ride the waves as you stand on a surfboard.
True a personal surf coach who's experienced in surfing may be of great help to the person who wanna surf in a period of time. But that requires a huge amount. No matter what a new surfer may do, they must always seek guidance from the seasoned surfer in the water.
