Succulent Garden Ideas

This particular landscape was designed by yours truly. I started with those great black lava rocks -- given to me by some friends who moved to the area and felt they didn't go with the cottage garden they had in mind. Next came the spiky native grass, top and center, followed by the colorful Aeoniums (succulent rosettes), Crassulae, (bright green fingerlike succulents) and Festuca glauca 'Elijah Blue' (the smaller gray mounds of grass).
Ever since I put in this succulent garden at the corner edge of my driveway -- near the sidewalk -- four years ago, it's created lots of double-takes, questions, and compliments.

I think people are surprised to see such a vibrant burst of color, without a flower in sight.
