- During the anodization process, aluminum cookware is placed in a chemical bath containing electrolytes, including sulfuric acid. An electrical current running through the bath forms a protective layer on the metal that resists corrosion.
- Rust spots, pits and deep scratches can easily scratch a ceramic cooktop. Since anodization protects metal from corrosion, anodized cookware is safe to use on ceramic stovetops.
- Metal spoons and spatulas can scratch anodized cookware so always use plastic accessories with your pieces. You must wash anodized cookware by hand as dishwasher detergent can damage the coating and cause corrosion that will make the cookware unsafe to use on the ceramic cooktop.
- Even an anodized pot or pan with no signs of corrosion can scratch a ceramic stovetop if you pull it across the surface instead of picking it up before moving it.
