- 1). Mark off a hole for the fan and cut it, using your saw. The fan should go in a location where there is room above for the fan housing and where there is the possibility for the shortest line to the outside for the ductwork. Normally bathroom fans are mounted in the ceiling, but for a grow room or a grow closet, you could mount it on a side wall as well. If the hole does not have adjacent studs for support, cut and nail a piece of 2 x 4 lumber in place next to the hole so you can screw the fan housing to it.
- 2). Secure the fan in place by screwing it to the wood adjacent to the hole.
- 3). Run ductwork from the fan to the outside. This can be optional if your grow space is in a well-ventilated shed or garage, but necessary if it's in a house or basement. Attach the ducts to the fan housing and make a hole for the other end to vent to the outside. Install a vent cap to finish off the outside end of the vent.
- 4). Connect the electrical wires. Consult an electrician if you are unfamiliar with how to do this. Turn off the electricity to the circuit you will be using.
- 5). Attach the outer cover to the fan on the inside of the grow room.
- 6). Provide for an opening so outside air can enter the grow room as the old air is removed. Fresh air is important for healthy plants. An opening with a filter or screen that is opposite the location of the fan will do.
