Geraniums

• The commonly grown geranium (Pelargonium) can easily grow in direct sunlight in the house. It's available in many colors and is known for its no-fuss characteristics. Geraniums grow as annuals outdoors, but when grown indoors can thrive as perennials and produce flowers for most of the year.
  
  

Gerbera Daisies

• The vibrant colors of gerbera daisies (Gerbera jamesonii) also make it a favorite plant among many gardeners. When grown in direct sunlight indoors, you can stretch this annual's production of blooms into the winter. Gerbera daisies can grow in the house as perennials under the right conditions.
  
  

Cacti and Succculents

• Cacti and succulents are related and require the same growing conditions. They can both survive indoors in a bright sunny window. According to Greg Stack at the University of Illinois Extension in Urban Illinois, "all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti." The similarities start and stop with the ability to store water. When planted outside, cacti and succulents need at least partial shade to avoid sunburning of the epidermis which can cause infection and rot. For that reason, cacti and succulents make excellent houseplants when set in a window with direct sunlight. The window absorbs the ultraviolet radiation, thereby, preventing the plants from getting sunburned.
  
  

Pygmy Date Palm

• Pygmy date palm (Phoenix roebelenii) derives its name from its small dates and short stature of only 6 to 12 feet. The trunk is upright or curving upon which 3 foot-long fronds appear. Since pygmy date palm can tolerate neglect, it makes an ideal houseplant for people desiring a no-fuss plant. It thrives best in high, bright light and tolerates direct sun.
  
  

Croton

• The green, red and orange colors of croton need high light to keep the leaf coloration. Too much sunlight fades the colors, but as with succulents and cacti, the croton receives protection from ultraviolet radiation when placed in a window with direct sunlight.
  
  

Spineless Yucca

• Spineless Yucca (Yucca elephantipes) requires full sun which makes it the ideal plant for a sunny window. It grows 3 to 5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. This coarse textured, woody tree has sharp pointed-tipped leaves. It can tolerate neglect as long as it receives full sunlight.
